Triptych Chip
Jessica’s practice focuses on themes of autodidacticism, DIY, inherited knowledge, homemade and traditional skills, amateurism and craft. She primarily works in a range of ‘low-hierarchy’ conventional and non-conventional art mediums. Her work takes on a lo-fi aesthetic, often being made from found and waste materials, with consideration for the environment.
Triptych Chip is a series of three gif collages that combine affection for home and bemusement at the media representation of Essex, expressed through a dry humour. They merge a press photo from UK reality television show Love Island, with scanned materials collected in Southend-on-Sea, a seaside town in Essex where the artist grew up and currently lives. The digitised analogue photos are of Canvey Island, also in Essex, where her father grew up.
