Artist bio

XoxoFielD, Badgirl Cliffside and Gem Tree

Sarah Ann Banks - originally from Dallas, Texas - works primarily with 3D animation software. Her practice revolves around popular imagery, art objects, and personal narratives. She uses the digital space to develop personalized and expansive worlds that build on one and other overtime. Banks is interested in the many ways 3D software can be utilized, from high scale production to the at home novice. She sees the overlap between these two ways of operating as the focal point for her creative process.

XoxoField, Badgirl Cliffside and Gem Tree form a triptych of animations that explore the influence of early 2000's reality tv on fashion and lifestyle trends. The artist draws on the influx of designer dogs, bags, diamonds, pink, cheetah print, and other well-known tropes from the period. These exorberent and shameless icons popularised on television led entire generations into flashier choices that broke conventions of femininity and modesty. In these three animations Sarah takes text, color, and iconography from these trends, converting them into dreamlike mini landscapes that have agency over the space and free them from the context of body and persona.
